Maraudon

Huge crystal-lit caverns beneath Desolace, corrupted by the earth elemental Princess Theradras and full of satyrs, plants and elementals. For both factions around level 45-52.

Entrance

In central Desolace, inside the caverns held by the Maraudine centaur. Alliance players start from Nijel's Point and Horde players from Shadowprey Village; both walk through the outer caves to the instance portals.

Overview

Maraudon is a sacred site of the centaur, said to be the burial ground of Zaetar, son of Cenarius, and his lover, the earth elemental Princess Theradras. Her corruption has spread through the caverns, twisting the plants and spawning hostile elementals, while satyrs and the Maraudine centaur also roam the halls.

It is one of the largest classic dungeons, with two outer wings marked by purple and orange crystals and a vast inner section of waterfalls and crystal pools. Both factions have quests here, and the Scepter of Celebras quest is worth doing early because it unlocks a shortcut for later runs.

Route

  • Orange wing (Foulspore Cavern): poison-soaked tunnels with Noxxion and Razorlash.
  • Purple wing (Wicked Grotto): satyr territory with Tinkerer Gizlock and Lord Vyletongue at the end.
  • Inner Maraudon: reached after the outer wings or via the Scepter of Celebras shortcut - Celebras the Cursed, Landslide, Rotgrip in the waters, and finally Princess Theradras.

    Noxxion

    A poisonous elemental in the orange-crystal wing. He periodically splits into small spawns - kill them quickly with AoE, then return to the boss.

    Razorlash

    A thorny plant monster patrolling the orange wing. Heavy melee damage that shreds armour; keep the tank healed.

    Tinkerer Gizlock

    A goblin engineer in the purple-crystal wing who shoots and throws bombs. Close the distance fast or fight him around a corner.

    Lord Vyletongue

    A satyr lord at the end of the purple wing, surrounded by guards. He blinks around and attacks from range - pull his guards first.

    Celebras the Cursed

    The corrupted son of Cenarius. He roots players and calls on nature magic; once defeated his spirit returns as Celebras the Redeemed for the scepter quest.

    Landslide

    A huge earth elemental that knocks the tank away and summons smaller rock elementals at low health. Tank him with your back to a wall.

    Rotgrip

    A giant crocolisk swimming in the waters of the inner caverns. Its bites leave a bleeding wound; otherwise simple.

    Princess Theradras

    The corrupted elemental princess. She throws boulders, knocks players back and fills the area with a damaging dust field - stay together near the tank and heal through it. When she dies, the spirit of Zaetar appears.

    Both factions

    Starts at: Cavindra, in the caverns outside the instance

    Recover the two pieces of Celebras's scepter (the Celebrian Rod and Celebrian Diamond) from Noxxion and Lord Vyletongue, then speak to Celebras the Redeemed inside.

  • The Scepter of Celebras

    Both factions

    Starts at: Celebras the Redeemed, inside Maraudon

    Watch Celebras restore the rod and claim the scepter, which opens a shortcut to the inner caverns.

    Defeat Princess Theradras to cleanse the land of her corruption.

Maraudon — Level 1

  • Maraudon has three parts - the orange wing, the purple wing and the inner caverns - and it is long. Many groups run the wings and the inner section separately.
  • With the Scepter of Celebras you can skip the outer wings and teleport straight to the inner caverns.
  • Lots of nature damage and poison here - cure poison and nature resistance are both helpful.
