Scarlet Monastery

The Scarlet Crusade's fortified monastery in Tirisfal Glades, split into four separate wings - Graveyard, Library, Armory and Cathedral - covering roughly levels 28-45. One of the most-run dungeons of the levelling game.

Entrance

The monastery stands in north-eastern Tirisfal Glades, past the Scarlet Watch Post. Horde players ride over from Brill or the Undercity; Alliance players travel north through Horde land from Southshore and the Hinterlands. All four wing entrances are in the same courtyard.

Overview

The Scarlet Monastery was once a proud seat of learning in Lordaeron. Today it belongs to the Scarlet Crusade, a fanatical order that hunts the undead - and anyone they decide is tainted. Their leaders, High Inquisitor Whitemane and Scarlet Commander Mograine, run the Cathedral, while the Crusade’s champions and scholars hold the other wings.

Instead of one long dungeon, the monastery is four shorter wings sharing one courtyard: the Graveyard (around 28-36), the Library (around 30-40), the Armory (around 32-42) and the Cathedral (around 35-45). That spread makes it the backbone of levelling in the 30s for both factions.

Route

  • Graveyard: a short loop through the cemetery and crypts. Interrogator Vishas is in a side room; Bloodmage Thalnos waits at the end.
  • Library: long halls of Crusaders lead to Houndmaster Loksey, then on to Arcanist Doan. The Scarlet Key is in his chamber.
  • Armory: training halls full of Scarlet soldiers, ending with Herod in the main hall.
  • Cathedral: fight through the courtyard and nave to Mograine and Whitemane at the altar. High Inquisitor Fairbanks is tucked away in a hidden room.

Graveyard

    Interrogator Vishas

    Graveyard. The Crusade's torturer, found in a side room. Uses shadow damage over time; a short fight.

    Bloodmage Thalnos

    Graveyard. An undead mage at the end of the wing who throws fire and shadow spells. Fight him with the group close to the healer.

Library

    Houndmaster Loksey

    Library. Fights alongside a pack of hounds - AoE or crowd control helps keep the dogs off the healer.

    Arcanist Doan

    Library. At half health he shields himself and starts charging a huge arcane explosion - everyone should run away from him until it goes off, then come back and finish him.

Armory

    Herod

    Armory. The Scarlet Champion spins into a whirlwind that devastates anyone nearby - melee step out when he starts. When he dies a large wave of Scarlet trainees rushes in, so be ready for one more big fight.

Cathedral

    High Inquisitor Fairbanks

    Cathedral. A secret boss found in a hidden chamber of the Cathedral. A casual fight once you find him.

    High Inquisitor Whitemane

    Cathedral. First you fight Scarlet Commander Mograine; when he falls, Whitemane enters, puts the group to sleep and resurrects him. Burn both down together - interrupt her heals.

    Strike at the heart of the Crusade: kill High Inquisitor Whitemane, Scarlet Commander Mograine, Herod and High Inquisitor Fairbanks.

    Collect hearts from the fanatical Scarlet Crusaders inside the monastery.

Scarlet Monastery — Level 1

  • Each wing is a separate instance with its own lockout - most groups run them in order Graveyard, Library, Armory, Cathedral as they level.
  • The Scarlet Key, found at the end of the Library, opens the doors to the Armory and Cathedral wings.
  • Hearts of Zeal drop from most Crusaders, so do the Horde quest alongside any wing.
  • Expect lots of humanoid trash with Shield Bash, heals and fear - interrupts and crowd control make runs much smoother.
