Entrance

The keep overlooks Pyrewood Village in southern Silverpine Forest. Horde players reach it easily from the Sepulcher; Alliance groups have to travel through Horde-controlled Silverpine, usually coming from the Wetlands or via Hillsbrad.

Overview

Shadowfang Keep was once the seat of Baron Silverlaine. During the Third War the Kirin Tor archmage Arugal summoned worgen from another world to fight the Scourge - but the beasts turned on the people of Silverpine instead, and Arugal, broken by guilt, took over the keep as their master. Now the castle is overrun with worgen, restless spirits and Arugal’s followers.

It is a shorter dungeon than its level range suggests, with a satisfying climb from the cellar to Arugal’s tower. The Horde has several quests here from the Sepulcher and the Undercity; Alliance characters mostly come for the experience and the class quests.

Route

Kill Rethilgore in the cellar, free the prisoner and let them open the door to the courtyard. Clear Razorclaw, then go through the dining hall (Baron Silverlaine), up to Commander Springvale, and out along the ramparts for Odo. The upper floors lead to Fenrus and Wolf Master Nandos, and finally the tower top where Arugal waits.

  1. 1

    Rethilgore

A worgen jailer holding prisoners in the cellar near the entrance. Once he dies, free the captive (it depends on your faction) - they open the courtyard door for you.

  2. 2

    Razorclaw the Butcher

A cleaver-wielding brute in the courtyard area. Pure melee damage - keep heals on the tank.

    Notable loot
    • Butcher's Cleaver
    • Butcher's Slicer
  3. 3

    Baron Silverlaine

The keep's former lord, now a ghost in the dining hall. He curses the group with Veil of Shadow, which badly reduces healing - remove curses if you can.

    Notable loot
    • Silverlaine's Family Seal
    • Baron's Scepter
  4. 4

    Commander Springvale

A fallen paladin with guards around him. He stuns with Hammer of Justice and heals himself; interrupt his Holy Light.

    Notable loot
    • Commander's Crest
    • Haunting Blade
  5. 5

    Odo the Blindwatcher

A blind worgen on the walkways. He periodically flies into a howling rage that increases his damage, so kill him quickly and keep the tank topped up.

    Notable loot
    • Odo's Ley Staff
  6. 6

    Fenrus the Devourer

A giant wolf whose bite applies a stacking poison. Cure poison or use antivenom; nothing else to worry about.

    Notable loot
    • Fenrus' Hide
  7. 7

    Wolf Master Nandos

Calls packs of worgen and wolves to his side. AoE and crowd control help a lot here.

  8. 8

    Archmage Arugal

The mad mage who unleashed the worgen. He teleports around his room, blasts players with shadow magic and can curse someone into a worgen form that attacks allies - stay spread and chase him down.

    Notable loot
    • Robes of Arugal
    • Belt of Arugal
    • Meteor Shard

  • Free the prisoner after Rethilgore - the courtyard door only opens when they do it.
  • Shadowfang Darksouls cast shadow damage and are needed for the warlock Soran'ruk quest.
  • The keep is compact but has stairs and narrow walkways - patrols on the battlements are easy to pull by accident.
  • The rare sword Shadowfang drops from trash here and is a popular weapon for levelers.
